Trike I

2007 - Recumbent trike

Idea for the trike.

The two complete wheels weight is 10.5 lb.

Wheels are BMX 20" rims and wheel chair hubs with drum brakes.

This is the best image of my trike.

Front axle geometry :

The front axle is built in an inclined plane. It will be welded onto a board used as marble. Figure of the right wheel. Direction of travel along axis x

The contact point of the wheel is in F

The axis of the wheel passes by B and D

The distance E0 = half track

BC = AG

BF = A0

Caster theta = arctan (AB / A0)

Camber beta = arctan (BC / A0)

Length B0 = (AB2 + A02) (1/2)

Gamma = arctan (BC / B0)

Numerical application :

Wheels are 20 inches which makes 254 mm radius

I choose a tire crushing of 4 mm

So BF = 250 mm = A0

I also needed AB = BC = 50 mm

Caster theta = arctan (50 / 250) = 11.31 °

Camber beta = arctan (50 / 250) = 11.31 °

Length B0 = (502 + 2502) (1/2) = 255 mm

Gamma = arctan (50 / 255) = 11.1 °

To draw this angle on the board I use lengths 50 and 255
