Electric Bike
1999 - Electric motor cycle
This project was an exercise. I had a 24" bicycle, one car battery and one starter. It required to bring all together and to see the result. The starter needed one big modification. In fact this kind of motor has no bearing on the output shaft. It required to build an aluminum flabby to hold the bearing. The second problem was to maintain the pinion on the output shaft. The third problem was to maintain the 52 teeth pinion on the rear wheel.I have solved the problem with one piece made of Epoxy with 1,6 mm thickness. The forth problem was to maintain the starter to the frame of the bicycle. I have used one piece of U shape steel. It was drilled and maintained to the frame with one piece of aluminum. The frame of the bicycle was sandwiched between these pieces. The starter was maintain to the U shape piece with one metallic bridle.
In the center of the image the aluminum pieces for bearing modification.

The test process focuses me on tree problems related to this kind of system :
- No recuperated energy when activating the brake (free wheel of bicycle)
- Working of the starter in ON/OFF mode
- Excessive heating of the starter
Technical data :
- 31 Mph Maximum speed
- 77 lb Weight.
- Car starter
- 75 Ah, 12 V Battery
- Motor drive in ON/OFF mode
- 15 % Maximum slope
